Falke RU Stabilizing Review
March 6, 2018
The Good
- Glove-like
- Wikcing
- Arch and ankle support
The Bad
- Intense feel
- Take time to pull on
These are true compression socks, but we included these because the compression design reinforces the arch of the foot, and we didn’t factor the lower calf support into ratings. The Falke RU Stabilizing sock provides some ankle and foot support, though only a few testers felt they noticed it during runs. However, one tester nursing a tender Achilles praised its compression (Falke has a different sock designed for Achilles issues).
Fit/Comfort
The sock uses an array of synthetic fibers for an anatomical fit with very targeted compression and wicking, including reinforced grooves under the arch. As a compression sock, the fit is tight and takes a bit to pull on. The length extends to the lower mid-calf. Some testers found it too different than the other socks tested or balked at the fit. One tester said, “Socks were comfortable every time I was training in them, and provided a great barrier for my stiffer shoes I was training in.”
Wicking
These wicked sweat well, and drew no notes of wet feet from testers. The polyester materials and tight fit allowed plenty of airflow above the foot and under the arch.
Durability
Tester found no signs of wear during testing. The typical wear spots are reinforced, and the materials promise a long life. During further testing, we’ll look for the compression aspect to give out before the socks run bare.

We called in 10 pairs of socks from established brands as well as newer entries to the market. We tested a mix of socks that will either debut in spring 2018, or are 2017 sock styles that will carry over into 2018 with new colors or patterns. Samples of variant styles were sent to our testers, who as road shoe testers, tended to prefer low-cut, thinner socks. Some ran in taller, more cushioned socks, though testers judged each pair based on the design’s intended use. We focused on the performance features in the foot of the sock, and our testers reported differences in the low-cut socks tied to the shape of their feet and the types of shoes they wore.
Our testers ran in these throughout the fall in different climates, including Colorado, California and British Columbia. Most of the testing coincided with our road shoe testing, though several runners took these on trail and training runs, too.
