{"id":3528,"count":12,"description":"Heavily insulated jackets are a specific category for jackets that are designed to keep the user warm in cold temperatures while riding up the chairlift but still allow for some ventilation to prevent overheating when skiing down the slopes. This type of jacket is primarily used at lift-accessed ski and ride areas in contrast to lightly insulated jackets or shells for warmer weather or which are more commonly used in backcountry or side country at resorts. Since heavily insulated jackets are intended for resort use they often come with lots of bells and whistles since saving weight isn\u2019t usually a priority while convenience and comfort are much more important.<\/span>\r\n\r\nFor the 2018-2019 season, there were quite a few new heavily insulated jackets on the market. Three of the four tested were male-specific with the Helly Hansen Powderstar being the only female specific jacket.<\/span>\r\n\r\nThe testing season happened to be a particularly cold one in the northern part of the country so testers had plenty of opportunities to test the jackets in Montana and Canada. There were no mind-blowing changes in the technology this year and the jackets tested continued to be solid choices for durable, breathable and warm resort-style jackets.
