Five Ten addressed the need for a cycling shoe that can legitimately hike through backcountry terrain by launching the TrailCross line last month. The line includes the TrailCross Mid Pro (mid-top) in unisex and the TrailCross LT (lo-top) in men’s and women’s.<\/p>\n

What sets the TrailCross series apart is their hiking ability. The midsole remains stiff for pedaling efficiency but flexes in the correct direction for hiking. The shoes also have an EVA midsole for cushioning and have an appropriate rocker for walking.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the TrailCross LT has multiple drain holes and is 100% hydrophobic, ensuring water crossings won’t interfere with the adventure.<\/p>\n

The TrailCross Mid Pro utilizes D30 padding on the medial and lateral sides of the ankle. D3O foam stiffens upon impact but remains supple otherwise, protecting the ankle against both crank arms and natural objects while remaining comfortable for pedaling.<\/p>\n

Both the LT and Mid Pro models retain the infamous Stealth rubber outsole for an unprecedented grip on the pedals.<\/p>\n

The Five Ten TrailCross Mid Pro retails for $170 while the TrailCross LT is $140. The line had a limited release in March at REI, and a full release is planned for mid to late May.<\/p>\n

For bikepackers or freeriders on flat pedals destined for adventures in more remote areas, Five Ten may have just created the shoe quiver-killer.<\/p>\n
